Town Records of DeKalb Ill page 265, 1864
Know all men by these present that we George Clark of the town of DeKalb in the county of DeKalb and State of Illinois as principle and Benjamin Gurler of the county and state aforesaid as sureties are held and firmly bound unto Thomas M. Hopkins Esq. Supervisor of the town of DeKalb aforesaid and to his successors in office in the penal sum of five hundred dollars for the payment of which will and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly severally and firmly by this present.
Signed with our hands and sealed with our seals this third day of May A.D. 1864
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounded George Clark was on the third day of May 1864 duly chosen Treasurer of the Board of Commissioners of Highways of the said town of DeKalb for the current year has accepted the office and is about to enter upon the performance of his duties.
Now therefore if the said George Clark shall faithfully discharge his duties as such Treasurer and shall honestly and faithfully account for and pay over upon the order of the Commissioner of Highways of said town all moneys that shall come into his hands by virtue of his office then the above obligation to be void other one to remain in full force and entered.
