Public Highway

Whereas upon the application of James Byers for Adee and others, twelve men legal voters residing within three miles of the route hereinafter described for a public highway a copyof their petition having been first duly posted up as required by law: we the commissioners of Highways of said town, did, on the 28th day of June A D 1864 cause a survey to be made by a competent surveyor of the following route to wit Commencing at a stake in the State road near the house of Jonathan Adee and running thence southerly on or near the road as now traveled along the east side of the grove, being the same as mentioned and set forth in said action which survey is according to the annexed plat and the said commissioners having personally examined the route proposed in said petition for a road, and having herd [sic] such reasons as were offered for and against the laying out of said road, at the time and place agreed upon and appointed by them for the hearing thereof and being of the opinion that the laying out of the same is nessary [sic] and proper, and that the public interest would be promoted thereby

It is therefore ordered and determined that a road be and the same is hereby laid out and established: to wit beginning at at [sic] a stake in the State road near the house of Jonathan Adee a hickory stump bears west 3 chains E 66 links it being on the north west quarter of section 14 in town 41 North Range 3 East of the 3rd principal meridian and running thence S7 ¾  E 14 chains 8 links to stake & stone a black oak tree bears N. 30 ½ E distant 18 links thence S 311/2 W 4 chains 85 links to a stake a Black oak tree bears N. 20 E dist. 106 links thence S. 15 W. 7 chains 90 links to Black oak tree thence same course 1 chain 75 links to a Stake thence S 38 ½  W 8 chains 56 links to a stone on the one eighth section line 6 chains 88 links South of the one eighth Section corner on the South line of the North West quarter of said section 14 it being four rods wide and passing over lands owned by Jona. Adee& George Adee herewith is a correct plat according to said survey and the plat hereunto annexed and made a part of this order and the same is hereby declared to be a Public Highway four [continued on next page]
