To Edwin A. Porter Esq. of the town of DeKalb county of DeKalb and State of Illinois

Greetings, Whereas, by the death of Franklin Winship our Town Clerk elected at our last annual town meeting held on the fifth (5) day of April A.D. 1864 for the current year, whereby said office has become vacant.

Therefore we reposing full confidence in your integrity and ability have appointed and do approve you Town Clerk for said town, to hold said office until some other person shall be chosen or appointed in your stead; and you will have the same powers and be subject to the same duties and penalties as if you had been duly chosen by the electors of said town.

In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names and affixed our seals at DeKalb this 15th day of February A.D. 1865.

I, Edwin A. Porter do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States and of the State of Illinois and that I will according to the best of my judgement, skill and ability, diligently, faithfully and impartially perform all the duties enjoined upon me as Town Clerk for the town of DeKalb in the County of DeKalb and State of Illinois.

I do solemnly swear that I have not fought a duel nor sent nor accepted a challenge to fight a duel the probable issue of which might have been the death of either party nor been a second to either party not in any manner
