Town Records of DeKalb Ill page 354, 1867

State of Illinois, County of DeKalb, Town of DeKalb

At a meeting of the Commissioners of Highways of said town held at the town clerk’s office in said town on the 9th day of April A.D. 1867. There were present Misters Hulet Alden and Burr.  It was voted that E. B. Hulet should be the Treasurer for the coming year.

The Commissioners then preceded to ascertain, estimate and assess the highway and road tax to be preferred and paid in said town the ensuing year do estimate and assess two days highway labor to each and every male inhabitant in said town liable to be assessed for highway labor to be performed in said town the ensuing year, and we do assess a road tax of forth cents on each one hundred dollars’ worth of real estate and personal property liable to taxation of said town as valued on the assessment rolls of the past year to be paid in said town the ensuing year.

Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the office of Overseer of Highways for road district No. 15 in said town by reason of Peter Helmer’s refusing to serve (his age clearing him) we do hereby appoint Albert Freeland to act as Overseer of Highway for road district No. 15 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1868
