Record of road construction

Town Records of DeKalb Ill page 362, 1867

State of Illinois, DeKalb County

John F. Walker being duly sworn and says that he did on the 31st day of October 1867 past up three copies of the within petition as follows to wit; one copy at the post-office, one copy at the forks of the road at Abial Richardson on the tree at the side of the road, one copy at the forks of the road on a tree near Calvin S. Colton in the town of DeKalb in said county is being three of the most public places in said town.

The above are correct copies of the original petition and affidavit as filed with me this 7th day of December 1867

Whereas a road having been laid out on the 27th day of Nov 1867 by E B. Hulett, Jesse Alden and Lucian Burr Commissioners of Highways of the town of DeKalb in the county of DeKalb on the application of the requisite number of legal voters residing within three miles of said road as follows; commencing in an able on the road known as the Brush Point Road near Jesse Alden’s running in a southerly direction and intersecting the road near the school house in District number one that passes by William Hubbard’s which road passes through certain lands owned by me/being known as the Richardson Farm now therefore know all men by these present the I, Jesse Alden for value received do hereby release all claims to damages sustained by me by reason of laying out and opening said road through my said lands as above described.

In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 30th day of Dec A.D. 1867
