Minutes of the Town Meeting of South Grove, 1850.
At a Town Meeting held at the home of Jonathan Adee in the town of South Grove in the county of DeKalb in the State of Illinois on the second day of April AD 1850 James Byers was chosen Moderator and John S Brown Clerk.
The following named persons received the number of votes opposite their names for the following offices.
For Supervisor John S. Brown had fifteen votes Majority 4
For Supervisor Warren H Stebbens had eleven votes.
For Town Clerk Edward S. Thomson had twenty seven votes
For Assessor Jesse Tindall had twenty eight votes
For Collector William T Adee had twenty five votes
For Overseer of Poor James Byers had twenty six votes
For Com. Of highways William M Byers had twenty seven votes
For Com. Of highways Benjamin Worden had twenty eight votes
For Justice of the Peace Henry Safford has twenty six votes
For Justice of the Peace Warren Stebbins had eleven votes
For Justice of the Peace Jarvis Mason had seven votes
For Justice of the Peace John S Brown had six votes
For Constable John B. Orput had twenty seven votes
For Constable Sylvester Tutton [Sutton] had twenty one votes
For Constable Stephen S. Adee had four votes
For Constable James Byers had two votes
On Motion Voted That Henry Safford be path Master.
On Motion Voted That to make a fence lawful, it shall be constructed of three rails or three boards built in a strong and substantial manner
On Motion Voted That neither Hogs or Sheep shall be permitted to roam at large
On Motion Voted That Horses and Cattle shall be permitted to roam at large: except bulls and stallion horses, which last mentioned, to with bulls and stallions, wl shall be restrained.
On Motion Voted That if any man in this town shall violate any of the laws or rules made at Town meeting, he shall be fined not exceeding ten dollars.
On Motion Voted That all fines collected in this Town shall be added to the School funds
On Motion Voted That all bulls over the age of one year shall not be permitted to run at large and that all stud colts or horses over the age of eighteen months shall not be permitted to run at large
