To wit

Be it remembered that on the 23rd day of May in the year of our Lord 1862 a petition was presented to us the undersigned commissioners of Highways for the Town aforesaid to lay out a new road in said town the same to commence on the State road on the section line between sections 8 & 9 and to continue the same north on said line through sections 4 & 5 to the Town line the owners of lands over which said road is to pass are James W Mason O T Hunt Edward Becker H T Pace Martin M Mack Fox and Abram Thomas We therefore in pursuance of the statue [sic] in that case made and provided having viewed the said premises and obtained a plat and delineation of said intended road from a competent surveyor commencing on the State road and running on the section line between 8 & 9 and continuing on said line through sections 4 & 5 unto the Town line over the lands of James Mason E G Hunt Edward Becker H T Pace Martin M Mack Fox and Abram Thomas And we the said commissioners having heard the allegations of the parties before named touching they will sustain we agree to award unto the said James W Mason the sum of twenty five dollars as an equivalent for his damages and we do hereby confirm establish and ratify the said road to be a public highway within the town of South Grove aforesaid
