Minutes of the Town Meeting of South Grove A D 1853

At a town meeting held at the School house in the Town of South Grove, the County of DeKalb State of Illinois on the Fifth day of April in the AD 1853 Henry Safford was Chosen Moderator And Stephen S. Adee Clerk. The following names persons received the number of votes set opposite their Respective names for the following offices.

For Supervisor Henry Safford Had Fifteen votes

For Supervisor Jesse Tindall Had Seaventeen [seventeen] votes

For Town Clerk Stephen S. Adee Had Sixteen votes

For Town Clerk Peter M. Deyoe Had Seaventeen [seventeen] votes

For Assessor James Byers Had Seaventeen [seventeen] votes

For Assessor Jarvis Mason Had Sixteen votes

For Collector John G Mason Had Fifteen votes

For Collector James W. Mason Had Sixteen votes

For Overseer of the Poor William P Deyoe Had Seaventeen [seventeen] votes

For Overseer of the Poor James Byers Had Fifteen votes

For Commissioner of Highways John B. Orput Had Eight votes

For Commissioner of Highways John G. Mason Had Twenty four votes

For Commissioner of Highways Phineas Crandall Had Nineteen votes

For Commissioner of Highways Benjamin Worden Had Nine votes

For Commissioner of Highways Mathew Thompson Had Nine votes

For Commissioner of Highways Barnabus Hatch Had Fourteen votes

For Commissioner of Highways Ichibus Richmond Had Sixteen votes

For Constable Peter M Deyoe Had Seaven [seven] votes

For Constable James W. Mason Had Twenty votes

On Motion Voted that the bylaws concerning horses Cattle Hogs & Sheep remain as they now exist Carried

On Motion Benjamin Worden be (elected) Overseer of Highways in road District No. 1 Lost

On Motion James Byers Sr be elected Overseer of Highways in road District No. 1 Lost

On Motion Voted Henry Safford be Elected overseer of Highway in road District No. 1 Carried

On Motion Voted Wm P Deyoe be Elected Overseer of Highway in road District No 2 Carried

On Motion Voted Mathew Thompson be Elected overseer of Highway in road District No 3 Carried

On Motion Voted pound Masters be Dispensed with Carried
