Order for a Highway
Town of South Grove in the County of DeKalb to wit
Be it remembered that on the 8th day of August in the year of our Lord 1854 at South Grove we the commissioners of Highways for the Town aforesaid having assembled for the purpose of taking into consideration a certain petition for to open a public Highway within the said Town and that the same should comence [commence] at the distance of 32 chains and 70 links west of a certain Road heretofore opened but very objectionable on account of certain slough over which the said Highway has to pass and for persons in the said pettion[petition] specified.
Now we the said commissioners having duly examined the premises and after mature deliberation considered the expense the said public Highway heretofore opened would be to keep the same in reasonable repair agree to take up a portion of the said public Highway and having obtained a survey plat of the line petitioned for to be opened in lieu of said objectionable public highway heretofore laid out from a competent surveyor and in accordance with the petition have removed for the commencement 32 chains and 70 links west of the said road so taken up which admeasurement is the exact distance to the North west corner of section section one and from thence run south 75 chains and 24 links through nonresident land to the North West corner of section 12 thence south 20 chains past through Charles Rogers land to the owner of the other part unknown to commissions thence east 10 chains through lands belonging to James Byers thence south 78 chains 50 links through the property of James Byers and Henry Safford and to terminate at the distance of 10 chains East of the west line of section 14 on the State Road leading from South Grove to Sycamore and we are of opinion that the direction of the said road as above specified is essential to public convenience and therefore confirm establish and ratify the said directed road as a public Highway within the Town of South Grove in the County of DeKalb aforesaid.
