Annual Fall Auditing Meeting, Sept. 4, 1923

The meeting was called to order by the Supervisor at the Esmond State Bank.

Those present were W. G. McKenzie, Supervisor.  Frank Barnes, Town Clerk.  Geo. Barnes, Highway Commissioner.  Jos. Quinn, Assessor, and Morris Casey, Thistle Comm.

All bills presented were ordered paid.

“The undersigned Highway Comm. of the Town of South Grove DeKalb Co. + State aforesaid hereby certifies that at a regular meeting of Comm. held on the 1st Tues. of Sept. in the year A. D. 1923 to wit on the 4 [4th] day of Sept., 1923, at the office of Town Clerk for the purpose of determining the tax rate for road + bridge purposes to be certified by him to the Co. Board as provided by law, has determined that the rate of tax necessary to be levied upon all taxable property of said Town of South Grove for the proper construction, maintenance, and repair of roads + bridges, the purchase + repair of machinery, the oiling of roads, + the prevention + extirpation of weeds shall be Fifty Cents on each One Hundred Dols. Valuation as assessed + equalized for the yr. A. D. 1923.

The said Comm. of Hwys. does hereby further certify, that at the reg. annual meeting held at the office of Town Clerk on the 1st Tues. (the fourth day) of Sept. 1923, said meeting being held subsequent to the meeting of the Board of Aud. herinabove (sic) referred to at which consent to levy Fifty Cents on $100.00 valuation was given, he determined that the amt. of money necessary to be raised by taxation, for the purposes above mentioned for the yr. 1923 are as follows.

Construction of roads $2500.00

Maintenance 1200.00

Construction of bridges 750.00

Maintenance 550.00

Purchase of Machinery 500.00

Repairs 250.00

Prevention + extirpation of Weeds 250.00

Total     Six Thousand Dollars.

Thus making the total amt. necessary to be raised by taxation for purposes above mentioned, in said Town for said yr. Six Thousand Dollars, and it is hereby directed that the said amt. of money or so much or part thereof as may be approved by the Co. Board of D. Co. be + the same is hereby levied for Road + Bridge Taxes against all the taxable property of said Town for the year A. D. 1923.  (Signed.  Geo. Barnes, Highway Comm.).  Meeting adjourned.
