Records of the Town of South Grove, Page 7, 1852
At a town meeting held at the house of Jonathan Adee in the town of South Grove in the County of Dekalb [DeKalb] and State of Illinois on the sixth day of April in the AD 1852. Sylvester Sutton was chosen moderator and Stephen S. Adee clerk. The following named persons received the number of votes set opposite names for the following offices
For Supervisor William M Byers had Thirty one votes
For Town Clerk Stephen S Adee had Thirty votes
For Assessor Phineas Crandall had Thirteen votes
For Collector Sylvester Sutton had Twenty one votes
For Collector James Byers Sr. had Nine votes
For Commissioner of highways Matthew Thompson had thirty votes
For Commissioner of highways Jonathan Adee had twenty three votes
For Commissioner of highways Andrew Chapman had twenty votes
For Commissioner of highways James Byers had eleven votes
For Commissioner of highways John B Orput had seven votes
For Commissioner of highways John S Brown had one vote
For Overseer of the poor James Byers had twenty votes
For Overseer of the poor William P Deyoe had six votes
For Constable Augustus Thompson had twenty five votes
For Constable John S Brown had three votes
For Constable John William F Adee had one vote
On motion voted That their [there] be a pound master elected Lost
On motion voted That William M Byers be elected overseer of highways Carried
On motion voted That cattle shall not run at large after the fifteenth day of October Lost
On motion voted That the article in the town Law be so amended that any other fence than boards and posts shall be a lawful fence I equaly [equally] good Carried
On Motion voted That the Town laws remain as they were voted at a town meeting April the Second 1850 except in regard to fence which shall be four feet high constructed of three boards and posts or other material equaly [equally] good put up in a substantial manner Carried
